Lagos Authorities Close Down Three Unsafe Water Factories

On November 19, the Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission (LASWARCO) shut down three sachet water production facilities for violating health regulations during an operation in the Lekki/Ibeju-Lekki area.

This initiative, named “Operation Comply and Thrive,” aimed to reduce the presence of inferior water products and safeguard public health.

Throughout the operation, LASWARCO seized items from these factories, noting issues such as inadequate water treatment protocols and unsanitary conditions.

Funke Adepoju, the Commission’s Executive Secretary, emphasized the government’s dedication to regulating water production standards throughout Lagos State.

The factories that were closed include:

  • H-Life Water (Futuris Standard Solution Ltd.) – Located at Road 4A, Oguntayo Estate, Eputu, Ibeju Lekki. Found with unsanitary conditions, missing doors, unsuitable staff uniforms, and insufficient water treatment practices.
  • Aquadon Water (Uloek Technologies Ltd.) – Situated at Plot 10, Gbenga Street, Abijo, Ibeju Lekki, which had a dirty environment and lacked any water filtration or treatment systems.
  • Belwu Water (Yosidam Integrated Nig. Ltd.) – Located at 1 Alhaji MKO Street, Oribanwa, Ibeju Lekki. Noted for its untidy surroundings, inadequate filtration, and poorly protected treatment apparatus.

Chief Dr. Longinus Amaobi, who leads the Lekki/Ibeju Lekki Table Water Producers Association and is the CEO of Apno Water, voiced his worries about the increasing number of substandard products. “Many of us have invested significantly in maintaining high quality, but we are undercut by those who don’t adhere to proper standards, which harms public confidence and affects market pricing,” stated Amaobi.
