Lawmakers Demand an End to Police Intimidation Over Tinted Glass Infractions in the FCT

Reps Order Police to Stop Harassment of Motorists For Tinted (via Primetweets)

House of Representatives Urges FCT Police to Cease Motorist Harassment

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has been instructed to refrain from harassing motorists over issues related to tinted windows and obscured license plates.

This directive came from the House of Representatives following an urgent motion introduced by Muktar Shagaya during a recent plenary session.

In addition, the House requested that the FCT Police Command publish a public announcement that allows a grace period of at least 90 days for vehicle owners to comply with regulations regarding tinted glasses and number plates.

Consequently, the House has ordered an immediate halt to the enforcement of the ban on vehicles with tinted windows and covered number plates within the capital.

While presenting the motion, Shagaya voiced his concerns about the police’s recent enforcement measures aimed at combating criminal activities, including kidnapping, through a strict ban on tinted glasses and covered plates.

He emphasized that although the initiative was intended to improve security, the sudden implementation without proper public notification has resulted in significant harassment of drivers and major inconvenience for those following the law.

The resolution also called for the immediate cessation of undue harassment of motorists and for the release of any vehicles seized solely for tinted glasses or covered plates, as long as there are no other violations involved.

Furthermore, the House reiterated its call for the FCT Police Command to establish a public notice granting a reasonable grace period for vehicle owners to adjust to the tinted glass and number plate regulations.
