In a show of frustration with poor governance and hunger, residents of Urora in Benin, Edo State, took matters into their own hands by stealing a truck filled with rice on Thursday, August 1.
Individuals were spotted rushing to a street in Urora and returning with small bags of rice in hand.
Someone filming the incident can be heard exclaiming, “This rice is from the government, hidden for us. We found it. Come get your share. Look at all this rice provided by the Edo State Government, hidden here.”
Another video showed a resident mentioning that the truck was stationed near Bethel Faith Secondary School in Urora, condemning the state government’s actions.
The All Progressives Congress expressed little surprise at this situation, accusing the Godwin Obaseki government of disguising federal aid as donations from the state administration.
