In Adamawa State, a young man climbed a 33kV high tension pole in Mayo-Belwa, demanding the resignation of President Bola Tinubu before he would come down. He has since been rescued and taken into custody by the police.
The incident occurred on Friday morning, September 27, 2024, coinciding with the local market day in Mayo-Belwa. The man ascended the power pole along the Yola-Jalingo road.
Local residents assisted the police in persuading him to descend safely on Saturday night.
SP Suleiman Nguruje, the spokesperson for the police, confirmed the situation to Punch on the evening of September 29, stating that the individual is now under protective custody at the Criminal Investigating Department.
“We will present him on Monday for attempting suicide, as this is a criminal act according to our law. We are preparing to take him to court,” Nguruje mentioned.
He emphasized the police’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property and stressed that individuals attempting self-harm will face serious legal consequences.
