A nursing mother named Blessing Ibuku has been taken into custody by the Delta State Police for the suspected killing of her 10-month-old son, Prevail Jonathan.

During police questioning, she admitted that she threw her child into a river on December 31, 2024.

Delta State Police Commissioner, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, revealed details in a press conference held in Asaba on December 17.

He explained that the police received a report about the missing infant, Prevail, on December 4, 2024. While Blessing was at the station, law enforcement received a call regarding a child’s body found floating in the river at Aviara community.

Upon arrival at the station, the deceased child was identified as the missing baby.

The police commissioner noted that the suspect confessed to the act, stating that peer pressure from friends, who mocked her about the child not having a father, drove her to the tragic decision.

He indicated that legal proceedings against the suspect will commence shortly.
