Authorities from the Special Operations Unit of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have detained Chukwuemaka Obodozie, a prominent Nigerian drug figure.

The unit focuses on cracking down on groups that specialize in trafficking large volumes of opioids into neighboring countries and then smuggling them in smaller quantities into Nigeria through various means.

Obodozie was captured in the early morning hours at Cele bus stop along Oshodi-Apapa express road in Lagos, carrying 100,000 tablets of tramadol 225mg in two bags after arriving from Ghana via a transport company.

The operation was the result of five months of surveillance on Chukwuemeka, as disclosed by Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA Director of Media & Advocacy, in a statement.

Additionally, the NDLEA reported the arrest of 17 individuals on Friday in the Oriade Local Government Area of Osun State where cannabis cultivation and possession of arms were discovered and dealt with by law enforcement.

Among those apprehended were identified as Peter Osuya, Zebron Ode, Dogo Reuben Matthew, Isaac Terna, Joseph David Lawrence, and several others.

Moreover, in separate incidents, individuals were caught with various illegal substances and arms in Kaduna, Kano, Lagos, and Bauchi, including live ammunition and different types of injected drugs intended for illicit distribution.

The NDLEA’s continued efforts across different states have led to significant seizures and arrests related to drug trafficking and arms supply networks operating within the country.
