Arrest of Two Men for Alleged Homosexuality in Gombe, Nigeria
Two individuals, Hassan Abubakar, aged 25, and Jibrin Ibrahim, aged 22, were apprehended by the Gombe State Police Command for their suspected involvement in homosexual activities in Kanbariki, Kumo Local Government Area.
The Command’s spokesperson, ASP Buhari Abdullahi, informed the media about the arrests during a press briefing on Tuesday, July 16, 2024.
Following a dispute between the two men, stemming from an incident where one of them reportedly engaged in anal intercourse with the other but did not honor the agreed payment of N15,000, their involvement was brought to light.
ASP Abdullahi stated that a distress call was received from the area’s ward head at 10:40 pm on July 11, prompting officers from the Akko division to swiftly respond and arrest the suspects.
The disagreement escalated into a violent confrontation involving machetes, drawing the attention of locals after one of the individuals seized the other’s phone for non-payment post the sexual encounter.
“In the course of the investigation, Jibrin Ibrahim admitted that Hassan Abubakar had promised to remit N15,000 to him immediately after the act,” said the PPRO.
Both suspects received medical care at a hospital before being taken into police custody, where they confessed to the offense.
Upon the completion of the ongoing inquiry, the accused parties will be brought before the court for prosecution, as per the police spokesperson.
While interacting with reporters, Jibrin narrated that Hassan had introduced him to homosexuality.
“I was detained on Thursday when Hassan invited me to his residence. He expressed his desire to have intercourse with me, and I consented on the condition of receiving N15,000, a promise he later reneged on. Subsequently, a scuffle ensued when I attempted to retrieve his phone, resulting in our exposure,” he revealed.
