The soldiers who were part of the counterinsurgency operation in the North-East, referred to as Operation Lafiya Dole, reportedly fled from a Boko Haram attack near Damboa, a community in Borno State.

According to sources within the military speaking with SaharaReporters, the Nigerian Army has discharged six soldiers for allegedly fleeing during a Boko Haram assault.

One source mentioned that more than 10 soldiers lost their lives during the attack.

As of now, the Nigerian Army has not confirmed the attack or acknowledged its casualties.

The source speaking to SaharaReporters stated that the six soldiers were discharged for retreating from the battleground.

The impacted individuals include PTE OLANIYI EMMANUEL, PTE MASA’UDU ADAMU, PTE ABDUL AZEE SALEH, PTE MOHAMMED MOHAMMED, PTE ADAH TOYE, and PTE HASSAN ABUBAKAR.

However, the source criticized the measures taken against his comrades, suggesting that they left the battlefield due to a lack of ammunition while confronting the terrorists.

He stressed that they were not adequately supplied with weapons and ammunition to counter the Boko Haram militants, leading to a depletion of ammunition during the confrontation.

Nigerian soldiers engaged in battles often express concerns about insufficient equipment to confront Boko Haram insurgents.

He laid responsibility for the casualties on inadequate firepower and insufficient equipment to combat the insurgents.

“Boko Haram managed to infiltrate our position that month, causing deaths and injuries. Some of our comrades fled during the fight and were subsequently discharged for their lack of response,” he remarked.
