The sponsors behind the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests have been placed under surveillance by the federal government.
This decision was communicated by Kemi Nandap, the Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Immigration Services, during a meeting at Defence Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.
She disclosed this information during a strategic session led by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa.
Nandap mentioned that these individuals, currently residing in the Diaspora, will face immediate arrest upon entering the country.
The Defence Chief and top intelligence officials recently convened in a closed-door meeting to discuss the enforcement of President Bola Tinubu’s directive to crackdown on the protest sponsors.
Following the meeting, Nandap, speaking to journalists, stated, “We have Diaspora sponsors on our watchlist. They are closely monitored, and any attempt to enter the country will result in their apprehension and handover to the appropriate authorities.”
In response to the protests, the Immigration Service has intensified its presence at land borders and airports to manage the nation’s entry and exit points efficiently.
Emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance, she mentioned that the agency is actively working to prevent foreign interference in the country.
Yusuf Bichi, the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), revealed that the agency has identified some sponsors, with certain bank accounts already frozen.
Represented by the DSS’ spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, Bichi noted that some of the implicated individuals are currently residing abroad and are under surveillance.
