A Nigerian man, aged 48, has been given a 25-year prison term in the United Kingdom for the s3xual assault and violence against a woman who had to jump from a window to escape.
Oladip Oshodi from Dagenham, East London, was found guilty of two counts of r*pe, administering a harmful substance, making threats to kill, causing serious physical harm, and engaging in controlling coercive behavior by the Snaresbrook Crown Court on July 5, 2024.
Oshodi was apprehended on July 12, 2023, by investigators from the Met’s East Area Public Protection Unit. He remained in custody throughout the legal procedures and was convicted of all charges on May 10 this year.
On the night of July 11, 2023, Oshodi made unwanted advances towards a woman he knew at his residence in the Mayesbrook section of Dagenham.
Despite the victim’s clear refusal to engage in s3xual activities with Oshodi, he proceeded to r*pe her twice that night and subjected her to a severe beating. The woman managed to escape by jumping from a ground-floor window onto the street, where she collapsed. Concerned citizens alerted the police who promptly came to her aid and moved her to safety.
She was then hospitalized for treatment and given assistance by specialized officers.
Detective Constable Serena McGhee stated: “Oshodi is a dangerous individual, and it is essential for the safety of women that he is now serving a lengthy prison sentence. I commend the victim and witnesses for their courage in this case.
“Oshodi displayed no remorse during the investigation and trial, and his accountability for his actions is a positive outcome.”
PC Kayleigh Grafton, a specialist officer working with victims of s3xual offenses, commented: “The survivor in this incident was fighting for her life when she had to escape from this man by jumping onto the street. I hope that this significant sentence will empower other victims of s3xual crimes to speak up.
