The Nigerian Senate swiftly approved the proposed N70,000 minimum wage bill on Tuesday, completing all three readings within an hour.
President Bola Tinubu had forwarded the wage bill to the national assembly, seeking the increase of the national minimum wage from N30,000 to N70,000.
The bill was also presented to the House of Representatives, suggesting a new national minimum wage of ₦70,000 for Nigerian workers.
This development represents a significant achievement in the ongoing discussions between the government and labor unions, following months of unsuccessful negotiations. The President’s intervention ultimately led to a breakthrough.
