For fans of the James Bond franchise, the announcement of the theme song is nearly as big as the film itself. Now, it’s been revealed that singer-songwriter Billie Eilish will be writing and performing the title track for No Time to Die. Here’s everything we know about the artist and her new gig.
Who is Billie Eilish?
If you’re asking the above question, you haven’t been paying much attention to popular music over the past year. The young singer-songwriter, who is just 18 years old, released her debut studio album in 2019 and quickly became a worldwide phenomenon.
Eilish broke out with a few singles, though none performed quite as well as “Bad Guy,” her first No. 1 hit. She performed it on Saturday Night Live, at the Coachella and Glastonbury Festivals, and it was even featured in a few advertisements, including the trailer for Bombshell.
She’s nominated at the 2020 Grammy Awards
After taking home four American Music Awards at the 2019 ceremony, it was essentially guaranteed that Eilish would soon become a Grammy winner. Indeed, she managed to score an impressive six nominations, many of which she shares with her brother and collaborator, Finneas O’Connell.
Eilish is, naturally, nominated for Best New Artist. “Bad Guy” is up for Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance. And her LP, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? is competing in the Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album categories.
Eilish announces her James Bond theme song
Ahead of the 2020 Grammy Awards, Eilish made a huge announcement. She will be performing the theme song for the upcoming James Bond film No Time To Die. Title tracks for 007 movies are a huge honor, and one that the performer likely doesn’t take lightly.
Eilish took to social media to celebrate the news. In addition to singing the song (the details of which have yet to be revealed), she co-wrote the track with O’Connell, as she does (nearly) all of her songs. Eilish is the youngest artist in history to have this honor.
When is ‘No Time to Die’ due out?
The upcoming 25th James Bond film is fast approaching. It was first announced back in 2016 but has gone through a lot of behind-the-scenes- adjustments and even a change to a new studio. Daniel Craig returns for his fifth (and last) time playing the role.
Joining Craig are returning cast members Ralph Fiennes, Ben Wishaw, and Jeffrey Wright. Additionally, Rami Malek will portray villain Safin, while Lashana Lynch enters as a new 007 and Ana de Armas plays a CIA agent. The film is due out in April.
Here’s what else Eilish has planned in 2020
We’re excited to see what else Eilish will be doing this year. Her directorial debut for her music video “Xanny” was released in late 2019, and we have a feeling that’s not the end of her behind the camera. But for now, Eilish will be focused on her 2020 Where Do We Go? World Tour which begins in March.
