The government of Ogun State has pledged to ensure justice is served regarding the brutal murder of Kehinde Fatinoye, his spouse Bukola, and their child Oreoluwa.
This tragic event occurred on January 1, 2023.
On February 3, 2025, an Ogun State High Court found the perpetrators guilty and sentenced them to death by hanging.
Lekan Adekanbi, the family’s driver, confessed to orchestrating the crime, attributing his actions to dissatisfaction with his salary and lack of financial assistance from his employers.
Kayode Akinmade, the Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Communication and Strategy, addressed public concerns in an interview with Punch, particularly regarding the government’s delays in signing execution orders.
Akinmade stressed that those sentenced to death must face their punishment, warning that postponing capital punishment could encourage criminals to believe they could escape accountability.
“In this case, justice must prevail. The state government has recently visited the prison to ensure proper conditions for death row inmates. We are committed to making sure those condemned receive their due punishment,” he stated.
He reassured the community that the government is aware of the worries surrounding the execution of capital punishment and affirmed that justice would not be compromised.
“Let’s wait for the government’s actions and the court’s ruling. We can trust that justice will be carried out. They must be held accountable,”
he added. “If those sentenced to life or death are not punished, it could encourage other criminals to believe they can act with impunity. The government must prioritize the public interest in these critical matters.”
When questioned about potential options if Governor Abiodun does not sign the death warrant, Akinmade reiterated that “the governor operates within the law.”
