Osun Assembly Backs Adeleke’s Urgent Second-Term Bid

The Osun State House of Assembly has officially supported Governor Ademola Adeleke for a second term in the upcoming 2026 gubernatorial elections.

Reports indicate that the confidence vote was introduced by Adewumi Adeyemi, who represents the Obokun State Constituency, and was seconded by Taofiq Olayiwola from Ede South State Constituency.

This endorsement occurred during a Tuesday plenary session, where the Assembly, consisting of 26 members—25 from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and 1 from the All Progressives Congress (APC)—demonstrated their unwavering support for the governor.

During the meeting, Speaker Adewale Egbedun acknowledged the governor’s accomplishments while celebrating his 65th birthday.

He praised the governor for his commitment to advancing Osun State, noting the positive impact of his governance and adherence to his five-point agenda.

The Speaker pointed out that the lawmakers, as representatives of their constituents, are proud of the governor’s leadership and encouraged him to continue seeking further achievements.

While inviting his colleagues to express their views on the endorsement, Simeon Popoola from the Boripe-Boluwaduro State Constituency shared an emotional tribute, recognizing the governor’s integrity and sincerity.

He stated, “Setting politics aside, our Governor embodies honesty and warmth. These qualities have significantly contributed to his effective performance.”

After the motion was put forward, the Speaker requested a vote, which was unanimously approved by the chamber.
