Call for Compliance with Court Order by PDP in Rivers State
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State is urging Governor Siminialayi Fubara to follow a Federal High Court ruling that prohibits the upcoming local government elections scheduled for October 5.
The party has emphasized the potential repercussions for the governor if he disregards this court decision. They are adamant that no one should partake in or facilitate any elections that contravene the court’s directive.
Chukwuemeka Aaron, the party’s state chairman, highlighted that participating in or organizing elections that go against the court’s ruling would be illegal.
Moreover, he advised residents to ignore any announcements regarding the local government elections set for October 5, reiterating that a Federal High Court ruling has put a stop to the vote.
Aaron reinforced the party’s dedication to upholding legal standards, urging that both the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) and the state government cannot selectively obey court orders. He implored the governor, a PDP member, to fully heed the court’s ruling.
The PDP has assessed the situation regarding the local government elections and firmly believes that promoting lawlessness or impunity is unacceptable, even as the leading party in the state. Compliance with court rulings is essential, and we cannot choose which orders to follow.
Therefore, we implore the Rivers State Governor, a member of our esteemed party, the PDP, to fully adhere to the Federal High Court’s judgment and halt the planned local government elections on October 5 in Rivers State.
