PDP’s Resilience Amidst Political Moves
Segun Sowunmi, a key figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed confidence in the party’s ability to overcome current challenges.
His comments come in light of several high-profile defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Sowunmi emphasized that within any political party, there is a scarcity of desirable roles, like the presidency or state governorships.
He also noted that while some members are leaving, there are others moving towards the PDP or other political groups.
“Why wouldn’t the PDP endure? There are limited positions up for grabs. Nigeria’s presidency is just one opportunity. Not everyone aiming for that position can join the APC. Similarly, there is only one governorship ticket available in each of the 36 states. Thus, aspiring governors cannot all be accommodated in the APC,” he remarked.
“Those migrating to the APC are not the only ones; some are also joining the PDP and other parties,” he continued.
Sowunmi cautioned against early political predictions and stressed that the next general elections are still far off.
“It’s premature to declare who will stay or leave at this stage,” he stated.
The PDP leader expressed his belief in the party’s solid foundation, asserting that its structures at both state and local levels remain robust.
