Pere Egbi, a Nigerian actor and producer, has spoken about the challenges facing Nollywood and its cinemas.

He disclosed experiencing a loss exceeding 100 million naira linked to these challenges.

This revelation came in response to a video from colleague Femi Branch, who expressed concerns about the troubling practices in local cinemas.

According to reports, Femi Branch highlighted the need for cinemas to treat all films fairly instead of favoring some over others.

Pere echoed these sentiments, sharing his own struggles as a victim of the situation.

The reality TV star mentioned investing 150 million naira of his own money and borrowing 11 million naira for one of his films, only to see disappointing returns.

He attributed the financial setbacks to the insufficient marketing of films and inadequate screening opportunities in cinemas.

Pere stated, “Dear Femi Branch, I saw your video and appreciate your boldness in addressing this matter. Everything you said resonates with me. Initially, I intended to wait until early 2025 to take action, but now I am ready to proceed.

“Regarding Netflix and Prime Video, my film The Silent Intruder is still not available on either platform. I poured over 150 million naira of my own resources into this project, along with an additional 11 million naira from an investor.

“Currently, I’m unable to repay that investor as I haven’t recouped my expenses. The film earned merely 53 million naira at the box office, and my share amounts to just a little over 8 million naira. I’m still searching for it on Netflix and Prime Video!

“This is the struggle many new producers, including myself, have to face. I’m dedicated to continuing this fight!”
