Peter Obi’s Response to Anambra Tragedy

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate from the 2023 elections, has spoken out against the tragic killing of 16 young individuals in the Nibo community, Anambra State.

In his condemnation of these brutal acts, he emphasized the importance of holding those responsible accountable.

Reports indicate that during the Onwa Asaa festival, armed men attacked and murdered at least 16 youths.

Witnesses claim the assailants arrived in a black Lexus SUV, targeted a local eatery, and opened fire without restraint, resulting in the loss of young lives.

Obi expressed his sorrow over these senseless acts in a statement on X, stating that such incidents reflect a troubling reality in society.

He characterized the killings as a deep tragedy for the victims’ families, the local community, and the nation, underscoring that no one holds the right to end a life.

He stated, “Life is sacred, and no one has the right to take it. Such heinous actions reveal a disturbing disregard for human dignity and the rule of law.”

He also mentioned, “Our nation cannot progress if we allow violence to become the norm, and we must work collectively to address the underlying causes of this growing menace.”

Formerly serving as Anambra’s governor, Obi expressed his condolences to the bereaved families, the community of Nibo, and the state.

He insisted, “I call on the authorities to act swiftly in bringing the perpetrators of this horrific crime to justice and ensuring that such incidents are never repeated.”

He concluded with a call for Nigeria to transform into a nation where justice and safety prevail over fear and disorder, stating, “Nigeria must become a nation where safety and justice prevail over violence and lawlessness.”
