He Died From Asphyxiation Police Deny Beating Suspect Erasmus

The Nigerian Police Force spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, refutes claims of torturing Erasmus Emeya to death in their custody following accusations made by the deceased’s mother, Rebecca Emeya, on a recent show.

In a statement, Adejobi denied the allegations and stated that Erasmus, a 33-year-old graduate, was arrested for cultism and r*pe. An autopsy revealed his cause of death as asphyxiation, not torture, with the examination conducted in the presence of the deceased’s family doctors.

Adejobi clarified, “The young man, accused of various crimes, including alleged r*pe and murder, was not subjected to torture by the police. The autopsy results confirmed death by asphyxiation, with no signs of torture.”

He expressed regret over Erasmus’s death, emphasizing that the police were counting on him to assist in resolving ongoing cases. Adejobi urged the public to consider all perspectives before casting blame on law enforcement.
