The Kano State Police Command has verified the killing of the well-known criminal and thug, Abba Burakita.
In the year 2023, Burakita, who had been wanted by authorities, surrendered himself to the police along with 40 of his followers, renouncing his involvement in thuggery activities.
SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the spokesperson for the command, confirmed this latest development during a media briefing at the police headquarters in Bompai on Monday, September 2, 2024. He stated that the notorious criminal sustained severe injuries during a clash with rival thuggery factions and passed away while undergoing treatment at Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital in Kano.
The police statement mentioned, “On 30/08/2024 at about 04:30pm, distress calls were received from State Road and residents of Dorayi Quarters, Kano reporting armed robbery incidents involving Abba Bala aka Burakita and Halifa aka Duguja. These syndicates robbed citizens and damaged their properties including vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles.”
The Commissioner of Police mobilized operatives upon receiving these reports, leading to the arrest of Abba Bala Barakita, a wanted fugitive linked to thuggery-related crimes, who was apprehended with severe injuries after the confrontation with rival groups. Two additional suspects were also arrested.
Abba Burakita was taken to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital in Kano where he succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical care. The case is currently under investigation.
