New Statue Unveiled in Times Square
A striking bronze statue of an African-American woman has been placed prominently in Times Square.
Standing at 12 feet tall, the artwork is named Grounded in the Stars.
Recent visitors observed it at the intersection of Broadway and 46th Street.
As reported by Time Out, this creation comes from Thomas J Price, a figurative artist based in London.
Price intended for this fictional character to reflect the dynamics, visuals, and distinct calls of cities like New York, Los Angeles, and London.
According to the official Times Square website, “Times Square serves as a landmark symbol that brings together individuals from diverse backgrounds, weaving their unique stories and experiences into a global tapestry.”
Additionally, Black Enterprise noted that the statue pays homage to Michelangelo’s David and encourages introspection about humanity.
The installation has sparked a variety of reactions among locals and tourists, who shared their opinions on social media.

@MattWalshBlog expressed, “We’re removing memorials of American heroes only to replace them with random statues of plus-size black women. The Left seems to lack historical figures; anyone born before 2005 is tagged as problematic.”
@Sierra_rak quipped, “This 12-foot ‘plus size’ African American statue in Times Square reminds me a bit of Leticia James. Is this a way to deter tourists?”
