The Kano State government responded to the hoisting of flags at the Nassarawa Palace, the residence of the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero.
This act was deemed by the government as a mere ploy to garner public attention.
The traditional flag, symbolizing the Emir’s authority and presence, is customarily raised at 6 a.m. and lowered at 6 p.m. daily. It is kept lowered when the Emir is absent or traveling.
On a recent morning, the flag was noticed to be raised at the Nassarawa palace at 6 a.m., sparking discussions and speculations.
Both Aminu Ado Bayero and Muhammadu Sanusi II are in contention for the Kano Emirate throne, conducting traditional and royal duties.
Bayero was dethroned while Sanusi was reinstated by the state government after an amendment to the Emirate Law.
A similar flag is flown at the Gidan Rumfa palace, the residence of the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sunusi II.
The governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, dismissed the act at the Nassarawa palace as a mere stunt for attention.
He stated, “It’s a futile attempt to seek undeserved attention. There is clarity that Emir Sanusi is the rightful Emir of Kano,” to reporters.
