Call to Abolish USAID for African Peace

Adamu Garba, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), believes that the elimination of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) could foster peace and stability throughout Africa.

He argued that this action would hinder terrorist groups, including Boko Haram and ISWAP, by cutting off their access to weapons and necessary support for their operations.

This declaration followed recent remarks by tech entrepreneur Elon Musk, who referred to USAID as a “criminal organization” in a post on his social media platform, X, suggesting it should be dismantled.

In light of Musk’s comments, Garba urged the governors of Northern Nigeria to act swiftly against NGOs within their regions.

He advocated for the elimination of USAID’s activities and the removal of NGOs, contending that this would restrict resources for militant factions and promote a peaceful environment on the continent.

Garba emphasized, “Eliminating USAID will usher in unmatched peace and stability across Africa.

“Groups like Boko Haram and ISWAP will deplete their supplies of arms and reconnaissance support as a result.

“It is crucial for the governors in Northern Nigeria to take prompt actions against NGOs operating in their states.”

USAID is among the largest global development organizations, managing substantial aid funds focused on disaster relief, health, and development initiatives.

However, during the Trump administration, there were attempts to halt foreign aid, and discussions have emerged regarding the potential dissolution of USAID, suggesting its functions may be integrated into the State Department.
