On Friday, December 6, police officers cordoned off the Emir of Bichi’s palace in anticipation of a newly appointed district head’s arrival.
This incident sparked anxiety within the Bichi Local Government Area of Kano State.
Reports from onlookers indicated that law enforcement also instructed local village and ward leaders, who assembled to honor the new emir, to leave the palace grounds.
In light of these developments, the Chairman of Bichi Local Government, Alhaji Hamza Mai Fata, reiterated calls for peace and lawfulness among community members.
A statement released on Friday by the local government’s Information Officer, Tasiu Jibo Dawanau, mentioned a rescheduling of the originally planned gathering by the Kano Emirate.
The statement concluded with reassurance: “The area remains calm, and people are going about their normal business activities.”
The motives behind the police blockade and the event postponement are still ambiguous, with no clarification provided by either the Kano Emirate or law enforcement as of the latest updates.
Additionally, security forces have also restricted access to the palace of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, hindering his participation in a royal function in the Bichi Local Government Area.
Emir Sanusi II was set to oversee the presentation of a staff of office to the newly appointed District Head in Bichi.
