Nigerian Senate’s New Directive for State Governments

The Nigerian Senate has instructed state and local administrations to promptly adhere to the Supreme Court’s ruling concerning local government finances and direct funding.

Additionally, the Senate aims to initiate constitutional amendments to ensure that local government operations gain complete autonomy in Nigeria.

This decision was shared by Deputy Senate President, Sen. Jibrin Barau, after lawmakers reconvened from a private session where they discussed the efforts by certain state governments to bypass the Supreme Court’s decision issued on July 11.
