William Troost-Ekong, the captain of the Super Eagles, advocates for a native coach to guide the team.
In June, the Nigeria Football Federation announced plans to bring in a foreign coach to take charge of the Super Eagles.
However, the NFF’s attempt to hire German Bruno Labbadia as the head coach was unsuccessful.
Despite this, the federation is still on the lookout for a foreign coach to lead the team.
Troost-Ekong, on the other hand, supports the idea of a local coach leading the team.
“I’ve always said that having a coach from Nigeria is an advantage. Someone who has been in our shoes and understands what we’re going through can bring that experience to the team,” stated the Al-Khaloood of Saudi defender during a press conference in Uyo.
Former international player Augustine Eguavoen will oversee the team on an interim basis for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifications against Benin Republic and Rwanda.
