Survivor Shares His Experience from a Fatal Bus Accident
Destiny Sunday, who survived a devastating accident on the Ore-Lagos expressway, has recounted his frightening experience.
The crash, which took place on Saturday, February 1, 2025, resulted in at least 28 passengers tragically burned beyond recognition.
Dr. Olatunji Paul, a local medical practitioner, confirmed that two survivors were admitted to the hospital.
“The two individuals who arrived here had injuries. We made sure to stabilize their condition,” he shared with The Hope Newspaper, a state-owned outlet.
Destiny described his experience: “I was traveling on a GUO bus from Berger in Lagos to Benin. During a stop at Mowe, I exited the bus to use the restroom.
“Upon returning, I discovered someone else had taken my seat, which infuriated me and led to a brief argument. However, the driver and fellow passengers convinced me to occupy a seat in the back, which I did.”
“Eventually, another passenger joined me. As I was using my phone, I started to feel drowsy. I noticed the driver veering off the highway, apparently to avoid police, but I was quickly falling asleep.”
“When I awoke, I found myself in a towing van and asked someone nearby what had happened. That’s when I learned the bus had caught fire, and only two passengers managed to survive.”
As the sole surviving child of his parents, Destiny is now seeking financial assistance for his recovery.
“I am reaching out for financial support from individuals and the Government.
I lack the means to pay for my medical treatment for a broken leg,” he stated.
