TCN Provides Insights as Nigeria Faces Nationwide Blackout Following Recent Grid Failure

TCN Gives Update As Blackout Hits Nigeria In Latest National (via Primetweets)

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reported that efforts to restore power are underway, following a significant blackout that affected the nation due to the failure of the national grid.

This latest outage occurred on Thursday, marking the second instance of grid failure this week.

In response to the collapse, TCN explained, “The problem stemmed from a frequency spike at one of our substations, necessitating its shutdown to avoid further complications.

“The national grid experienced a disturbance around 11:29 am, triggered by a rapid increase in frequency from 50.33Hz to 51.44Hz.”

Regarding the restoration process, TCN mentioned, “Recovery efforts began promptly, and the Abuja area was reconnected within 28 minutes. Ongoing recovery work continues.

“We are also focusing on repairs for several key transmission lines and substations.

“This includes work on the 330kV lines in the Shiroro-Mando area, significant upgrades at the Jebba Transmission Substation, and restoring the second Ugwuaji-Apir 330kV transmission line.

“Moreover, we have started addressing the issues identified in a recent report on earlier grid collapses to improve our transmission system.

“Our goal is to mitigate the vulnerabilities noted in the report and strengthen the grid’s overall stability with technical upgrades and strategic recommendations.

“It’s important to understand that while these improvements are in progress, some instability may continue until all major repairs are completed.

“We recognize the disruptions caused and appreciate the public’s patience and understanding during this challenging time.”

The frequent failures of the national grid have drawn criticism from citizens, who express frustration over the ongoing instability.
