President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has made his entrance at the Presidential Villa in Abuja for the 64th Independence Day Parade.
Serving as the special guest of honor, Tinubu was welcomed to the venue at approximately 10:10 am, for a ceremony focused on the theme ‘Reflecting on the Past; Inspiring the Future.’
Following the national salute, he conducted an inspection of the Guard of Honour comprising members from the Nigeria Armed Forces, led by Lt. Col. Moshood Yusuf.
This day marks Tinubu’s second occasion celebrating Independence Day in his presidential capacity.
While past events were typically held at Eagle Square, the current administration decided to revert these celebrations back to the Villa.
In an announcement made in October 2023, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, noted that this year’s Independence Day observance would be more subdued, reflecting the current economic challenges.
Other notable attendees at the ceremony included: Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, Chief Justice of Nigeria Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, SGF Akume, National Security Adviser Mr. Nuhu Ribadu, Service Chiefs, the Inspector General of Police, cabinet members, former presidents and vice presidents, heads of paramilitary agencies, and members of the diplomatic community.
