A devastating incident occurred on Saturday in the Oshodi area of Lagos, where a 50-year-old man, known only as Emmanuel, lost his life after being struck by a train.
According to reports from PUNCH Online, the accident took place close to the Arena Shopping Mall in Oshodi.
The man’s sister, whose name has not been revealed, told the police that she received a distressing call around 9 am regarding her brother’s fatal accident involving a train.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Police Command, stated that the Mosafejo Division was alerted about the tragedy at 1:33 pm, prompting immediate action from the police, who sent detectives to the location.
“Detectives visited and documented the scene,” Hundeyin mentioned, noting that “The body was taken to a public morgue for an autopsy.”
He also indicated that the case has been handed over to the Railway Police Command in Ebute Metta for deeper investigation.
While the precise details surrounding the incident remain unclear, a similar event took place in the Mushin area in August, where an adult male was fatality struck by a passing train.
This earlier accident reportedly occurred around 6 pm, as the victim was walking along the railway tracks at Cappa.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, through its spokesperson Nosa Okunbor, stated that the victim was found deceased at the scene, having suffered severe injuries from the crash.
Okunbor further confirmed that the man had died instantly due to the collision’s impact.
