A farmer named Alhaji Mai Wanda Maibultu was killed during a raid by suspected bandits in Garbatau, Bali Local Government Area of Taraba State. Additionally, six other individuals were kidnapped in the violent incident.
This attack took place over the weekend when Maibultu, known for his large-scale farming operations, was targeted on his land. The kidnappers took six victims from Garbatau village, located within a mountainous area a short distance from Garba Chede town.
Local residents revealed that the kidnappers have reached out to the families of those abducted, demanding a hefty ransom of N100 million for their safe return.
Adamu Dauda, a community member from Maihula town, shared that this type of violence is not new to the area. He recalled that last year, a significant number of kidnappers invaded, taking many farmers hostage and interrupting the harvest season.
“This time, the farmers were in the midst of harvesting their crops when the assailants struck again,” Dauda expressed, emphasizing the ongoing distress over these repeated attacks.
This alarming incident has reignited worries about the ongoing insecurity plaguing the region, which not only threatens the safety of farmers but also disrupts the entire food supply chain in Taraba State.
