A tragic accident occurred late Tuesday night on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway in the Abule Osun area, resulting in the deaths of ten individuals, including three children. In addition, three others suffered serious injuries from the incident.
The collision happened around 11 pm when a Toyota Sienna, overloaded with passengers, crashed into a parked truck. This information was confirmed by Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, in a statement released on Wednesday.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the Sienna was speeding and failed to notice the stationary truck, which was carrying granite and obstructing part of the roadway.
Oke-Osanyintolu noted, “Upon reaching the site of the accident on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, it was evident that a Toyota Sienna, with registration number BDG 342 FS, was involved in a collision with a parked SHACMAN truck, whose registration number remains unknown.
“The truck had been stationary and occupied half of the lane while the Toyota Sienna, traveling at high speed, collided with it from behind.”
“Regrettably, ten individuals lost their lives in this incident, comprising three adult males, four adult females, two girls, and one boy,” he reported.
Oke-Osanyintolu mentioned that the injured were promptly rescued by officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) prior to the arrival of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) team. The deceased will be transferred to the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit for further procedures.
“Those injured included a female adult and two children (one boy and one girl), and they were taken to a nearby hospital,” he added.
“The battered Toyota Sienna was retrieved with assistance from the Agency’s Lite Tow Truck and taken to the FRSC station.”
“The ten deceased individuals have been bagged and are awaiting the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit for the next steps,” concluded the LASEMA PS.
