Tragic Death Strikes Anambra Community Just Days Before Family Mourning

Engr. Asomba Andrew Egbuonu, a distinguished member of the Nigerian Institute of Architects (FNIA), tragically passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2024, due to life-threatening injuries from gunfire sustained in an attack near his hometown of Nnewi in Anambra State.

The architect, known for his work in Port Harcourt and originally from Anambra, was killed just days before his mother’s funeral.

Egbuonu succumbed to his injuries on November 17, 2024, following an incident where he was shot by unknown assailants while he was preparing for his mother’s burial, which was scheduled for November 21.

Chike Chamberlain Ibeanu, the General Secretary of the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA), delivered this unfortunate news in a statement. He shared that Egbuonu was attacked while he was making final arrangements for the upcoming service.

“It is with a heavy heart that I announce the death of our esteemed colleague, Arc. Asomba Andrew Egbuonu FNIA, KSJ,” the statement expressed.

“He passed away on November 17, 2024, due to complications from gunshot injuries inflicted by unidentified gunmen in Nnewi.”

“He was returning home to finalize details for his mother’s funeral set for November 21, 2024.”

“At the time of his death, Arc. Asomba Andrew Egbuonu FNIA served as the Chair of the Architectural Exhibitions and Competitions Committee of the Institute and was a former Chair of the NIA Rivers State Chapter.”
