A devastating accident occurred on Sunday near the Second Rainbow Bus Stop on the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway in Lagos, resulting in the death of two individuals.
Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), noted that the agency quickly responded after an emergency alert was received, sending a team to handle the situation.
The incident unfolded around 5:52 PM, involving several vehicles: a MAN truck (registration number KTU 793 YE) loaded with groundnut oil, a Honda Accord (registration number KTU 223 GH), and two commercial buses.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the truck experienced a mechanical issue while traveling at high speed, leading to a loss of control and subsequent collisions with nearby vehicles.
Unfortunately, two adult males were confirmed dead at the scene, while others received medical assistance from LASAMBUS emergency responders. All four vehicles incurred extensive damage.
A coordinated effort from various agencies enabled the rapid clearance of the accident site.
The damaged vehicles were transported to the Festac Police Station, and the bodies of the deceased were handed over to the police before being taken to the mortuary.
