Over the weekend, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, expressed shock and disappointment following the arrest of Ayomide Adeleye, a 200-level Philosophy student, on suspicion of murder.
Adeleye is currently in custody of the Lagos State Police Command as the main suspect in the abduction and death of Christianah Idowu, a 300-level Pure and Applied Botany student at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.
According to reports, Adeleye allegedly abducted Idowu in Ikorodu around August 19, received a ransom of N350,000, and eventually killed and buried her in a shallow grave.
In a statement signed by Dr. Wale Balogun on behalf of the university’s Corporate Affairs division, the institution expressed shock at Adeleye’s arrest, given the nature of the crime he is linked to.
The university emphasized its strong stance against violence and criminal activities and condemned the alleged actions of Adeleye.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ayodeji Agboola, extended the university’s condolences to Idowu’s family and the entire community affected by this tragic incident.
The university refrained from making further comments on the ongoing investigation, emphasizing that it is a matter for law enforcement and the judicial system to handle.
Everyone is encouraged to respect the investigative process and allow justice to take its course.
