Chelsea captain Enzo Fernandez seems to be on the verge of a surprising transfer away from the team.
With merely two games left in the season, the Blues have significant stakes ahead. They are set to clash with Nottingham Forest on the last matchday of the Premier League and will then compete against Real Betis in the UEFA Conference League final shortly after.
A victory against Forest would secure Chelsea a spot in next season’s Champions League, while triumphing over Betis would ensure a trophy to conclude their season.
Yet, it appears that even before these crucial games begin, Chelsea must start planning for the next season, as standout player Fernandez might have committed to an unexpected transfer away from Stamford Bridge.
Although he has seven years remaining on his Chelsea contract, with an estimated salary of £180,000 per week, sources suggest he is gearing up for a move this summer to La Liga powerhouse Real Madrid.
As reported by Spanish reporter Gustavo Mendez, Fernandez and his partner were recently seen browsing properties in Madrid. The journalist indicates that Fernandez has already discussed a potential move with Real Madrid and appears to have reached an agreement.
It’s thought that fellow Argentine international Julian Alvarez, who plays for Atletico Madrid, has suggested a neighborhood close to Fernandez’s current residence.
The obstacle for Fernandez’s move to Madrid
However, regardless of Fernandez’s interest or any agreement with Real Madrid, the renowned club must negotiate a transfer fee with Chelsea before the move can be completed.
Since joining Chelsea from Benfica for a record-breaking fee of £106 million in 2023, it is expected that Chelsea will require a substantial sum to allow Fernandez’s transfer.
With Fernandez under contract at Chelsea until the summer of 2032, the club is justified in requesting a significant fee.
As Fernandez has become an essential player for Chelsea, he is anticipated to feature prominently in both the final Premier League match and the Conference League final.
