Liverpool has made its position clear regarding Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future with the team.
The England defender is preparing to engage in serious contract discussions before the end of 2024, with his current agreement set to expire at the conclusion of the 2024/25 season.
In a bid to fend off interest from Real Madrid, who seemingly want to pair him with Jude Bellingham, the Reds plan to extend Alexander-Arnold’s contract with a long-term offer.
Although the 25-year-old can negotiate a free transfer with clubs outside the Premier League starting in 2025, he must wait until summer for any potential move.
As talks progress, Liverpool feels optimistic about securing a new deal for their right-back, emphasizing that he will not be allowed to leave in January under any circumstances.
Nevertheless, according to The Athletic, Carlo Ancelotti remains undeterred, prioritizing Alexander-Arnold as a key signing for Madrid.
While Tottenham’s Pedro Porro is being considered as a backup option, Ancelotti is primarily focused on acquiring Alexander-Arnold, who faces an important decision about his career trajectory.
Meanwhile, teammates Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah are also preparing for contract negotiations, with their current agreements expiring in 2025, but they are expected to receive shorter contracts than Alexander-Arnold.
