Paris Saint-Germain will take on Inter Milan in the Champions League final on May 31 at the Allianz Arena in Germany.
PSG has achieved 10 wins and suffered five losses in their 16 matches within the competition thus far. However, their path to reaching the Champions League final has been more tumultuous than their recent results suggest.
The team initially faced a setback, losing their opening match in the tournament. Subsequent defeats followed against Arsenal, Atletico Madrid, and Bayern Munich, complicating their journey.
In a pivotal seventh match against Manchester City, PSG managed to turn the tide after trailing 2-0 within the first 53 minutes, ultimately securing a 4-2 victory.
Despite facing an additional knockout round to gain entry into the Round of 16, PSG significantly altered their trajectory in the tournament after triumphing over City earlier this year.
Ahead of the upcoming final, head coach Luis Enrique labeled the win against City as a key turning point for his team.
Insights from PSG’s Coach Luis Enrique
Enrique emphasized that the match against Manchester City in the tournament’s early phase served as a crucial juncture for his players, setting a winning momentum leading to the final.
“Certain matches redefine everything — for fans and players alike — and can radically alter a team’s course. Against City, we fell behind 2-0, but we had a first-half goal disallowed due to a marginal offside, and we truly didn’t deserve to be behind, even though football isn’t always about who deserves it,” he remarked.
“That game might have been vital for our squad; we’ve steadily improved and reached our usual form during crucial moments in matches. I believe our team has developed and achieved even greater heights than we anticipated. It’s why football is so amazing, evoking such emotions, and why we find ourselves in the final now,” Enrique concluded.
Historically, PSG and Inter Milan have squared off six times, with the Italian team winning three matches compared to PSG’s single victory.
It remains uncertain whether Enrique can lead PSG to their inaugural Champions League title this Saturday.
