Real Madrid is actively searching for a new midfield talent.
Following the retirement of Toni Kroos last season, they have faced challenges in replacing him.
Injuries to key players such as Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni have compounded their difficulties, leaving Luka Modric to manage the midfield at the age of 39.
Although their summer focus was on acquiring Kylian Mbappe, Real Madrid is now prioritizing improvements in their midfield.
Reports indicate that they are considering five potential candidates to take over Kroos’ role, with three being players from the Premier League.
Candidates for Kroos’ Replacement
As per Diarios AS, Real Madrid is monitoring Liverpool’s Curtis Jones, Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez, and Manchester City’s Rodri.
Jones made a strong impression on Madrid’s scouts during Liverpool’s recent 2-0 victory against them in the Champions League. At just 23, he may be a more budget-friendly option compared to Rodri, who could be tough to attract from City.
Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea is also under consideration. While he hasn’t always started consistently this season, he has recently standout performances under manager Enzo Maresca, scoring in consecutive Premier League games.
Additional Options
The list of targets extends beyond the Premier League. Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich and PSG’s Vitinha are also being evaluated.
Kimmich, an experienced German international, offers versatility and depth. On the other hand, Vitinha, who has excelled for PSG and the Portugal national team, provides a younger, more vibrant alternative.
With a growing list of injuries and declining performances, Madrid faces urgency in making a move. January may be the moment for them to effectively reshape their midfield.
