This Sunday marks the beginning of a new managerial chapter for Manchester United as they take on Ipswich Town. This match will be Ruben Amorim’s debut as head coach, following his transition from Sporting CP, after the departure of Erik ten Hag.
During his initial pre-match press conference held on Friday, Amorim shared several important insights.
When asked about the team’s current challenges, he noted, “We’re losing possession too frequently, and we must improve our recovery efforts. This should be clear to everyone, and focusing on the details is essential.” He emphasized the need for improvement in the finer aspects of the game, stating, “While we might aim for significant changes, it’s really the smaller elements where I can assist these players immensely.”
Despite acknowledging areas needing improvement, the 39-year-old believes that a total overhaul isn’t necessary as he seeks to apply his approach.
“What we’re doing isn’t a revolution,” Amorim clarified. “Football strategies don’t drastically differ whether using five, three, or four defenders. We won’t claim this will be an evolution; time will tell. However, we will adopt a different style of play.
“We have our concepts. They may not be the ultimate strategies, but they reflect our perspective on football. It’s not about revolution or evolution; it’s about making changes.”
