The promising young footballer from Spain, Lamine Yamal, will not participate in the upcoming UEFA Nations League match against Serbia. At just 17 years old, he has shown immense potential in Spanish football, but his absence will be felt during this significant game.
Spain’s coach, Luis De la Fuente, provided updates regarding Yamal’s situation in a recent press conference.
Following Spain’s previous match, Yamal expressed some discomfort, leading De la Fuente to explain the decision to allow him to return to Barcelona.
According to De la Fuente, “He mentioned feeling discomfort and was uncertain if he would be ready for Tuesday. When in doubt, the player’s health is our priority,” highlighting the importance they place on Yamal’s wellbeing.
There have been speculations that Barcelona may have influenced Spain’s decision regarding Yamal’s release. However, De la Fuente responded humorously, stating, “I don’t see anyone dressed as a fortune teller,” dismissing the rumors.
The coach clarified that there were no external pressures involved, asserting, “I have not communicated with anyone from Barcelona. This was purely about a player being honest about his condition.”
De la Fuente also praised Yamal for his maturity in communicating his injury, saying, “It’s commendable at his age to express that he’s not ready for such a critical match.”
Having already participated in 72 games for club and country, Yamal is emerging as a key figure. However, as De la Fuente indicated, “Injuries are part of football,” acknowledging the unpredictability of the sport.

Despite Yamal’s absence, the Spanish team aims to build a strong performance. De la Fuente expressed confidence, stating, “We have plenty of talented players ready to step in. It’s not about replacing Yamal but about others rising to the occasion.”
Spain will also miss other significant players such as Dani Carvajal, Rodri, and Dani Olmo. Nonetheless, De la Fuente remains confident, stating, “We are fortunate to have some of the best talents.” While Yamal’s talent is hard to substitute, the depth of Spain’s squad remains robust.
Against a Serbian team looking for redemption after their last goalless draw, De la Fuente anticipates a challenging match. He remarked, “They are physically strong, but we must put in the effort and find inspiration.”
