Tottenham Hotspur signs South Korean talent with a twist

Tottenham Hotspur finalise deal to sign South Korea starlet but he won't join Spurs until January

Tottenham Hotspur confirms the acquisition of Yang Min-Hyeok from K League 1 team Gangwon FC, pending work permit and international clearance. The 18-year-old winger’s contract extends until 2030, but he won’t join Spurs until January 2025.

Yang has ascended from the K League Under-18 Championship to a regular first-team player at Gangwon FC, boasting 25 appearances this season with eight goals and four assists. He earned the Young Player of the Month award for April, May, and June.

Having represented South Korea at Under-16 and Under-17 levels, Yang participated in the FIFA Under-17 World Cup and AFC Under-17 Asia Cup. He is poised to become only the third Korean player to feature for Tottenham in the men’s team history.

The first Korean player at Tottenham was left-back Lee Young-pyo, while the most prominent is Son Heung-min, who has netted 162 goals in 408 matches since 2015.

Despite being a winger like Yang, Son adopted a more central role last season after Harry Kane’s transfer to Bayern Munich.
