Wrexham A.F.C. holds the distinction of being the first English League team to achieve three promotions in a row.
As the Welsh club, backed by Hollywood celebrities Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, gears up for a season in the Championship, they are launching a pre-season tour across Australia and New Zealand with aspirations of establishing a lasting presence in the Premier League.
July’s matches against A-League teams like Melbourne Victory, Sydney FC, and Wellington Phoenix will serve as essential groundwork as Wrexham sets its sights on a fourth consecutive promotion.
Since Reynolds and McElhenney’s takeover in 2021, the club narrowly missed advancing in the 2021-22 season by falling short in the playoff semi-final.

However, subsequent seasons saw three successful promotions, enabling Wrexham to ascend to League Two after the 2022-23 season, advance to League One in the 2023-24 season, and ultimately move into the Championship after last season.
Wrexham is determined to reach the Premier League, and CEO Michael Williamson has outlined a sustainable strategy aimed at ensuring the club’s success in one of the world’s premier leagues.
“I’m dedicated to making sure that when we reach the Premier League, which I believe we can, we establish ourselves and avoid a quick relegation,” Williamson shared with The Sporting News.
“That kind of rapid drop can lead to a downward spiral. Take Luton, who were just in the Premier League two seasons ago but faced relegation to League One last season.”
“To remain strong in the long term, we need significant investments in our infrastructure. This includes enhancing stadium facilities, developing our Academy for future player pipelines, and improving training amenities.”
“We’re also committed to our roots as a community-focused football organization. To make it to the Premier League, we must remain a club that serves its community.”
There’s no doubt that Wrexham is a formidable football entity, with their remarkable achievements reflecting their strength.
As with any club embarking on a pre-season tour, Wrexham is eager to prepare optimally for the upcoming Championship season in 2025-26.
“Our top priority is gearing up for the new season, particularly in the Championship,” Williamson stated.
“We’ll ensure the first team has the right training regime and competition schedule to provide players with essential minutes to hit the ground running.”

With Reynolds and McElhenney at the helm, there’s a lively atmosphere surrounding the club, reflected in their communications and activities, including those of CEO Williamson.
Williamson hinted that fans can anticipate an exciting experience on their Australia/New Zealand tour.
“Expect some high-quality football, and you never know whom you might encounter!” he remarked.
“I was once in a suite back in Wrexham when Channing Tatum appeared, and I thought, ‘What’s happening here?’ He quipped that he was there for a Super Bowl commercial.”
“The first match of the season featured Eva Longoria, and I was just blown away. This is the kind of thrill we promise.”
“I tell the fans to get ready for an exciting experience—it’s going to be fun.”
