Sofia Vergara underwent a remarkable transformation for her role as the infamous Colombian drug lord Griselda Blanco in the Netflix miniseries “Griselda.” The 53-year-old actress strived to deviate from her usual appearance to fully embody the character with authenticity.
Vergara aimed to portray Blanco’s distinctive presence without relying on her well-known physical attributes, emphasizing Blanco’s unconventional yet captivating “sex appeal,” which she deemed crucial to capture.
Vergara shared the lengths she went to in altering her appearance for the role, commenting on how she had to make adjustments to ensure her usual Latin curves were downplayed. She revealed, “I didn’t want the bouncing that is natural for Latin women to show. I would have to wrap myself so that my butt wouldn’t jiggle.”
To complete the transformation into Blanco, Vergara spent up to three hours daily on hair and makeup, involving intricate work with makeup, prosthetics, wig styling, and body makeup application to achieve the desired look.
In an interview with Kelly Clarkson, Vergara highlighted the extensive nature of the transformation, mentioning the changes that ranged from teeth and wig to nose and other cosmetic alterations.
Vergara’s commitment to altering her appearance for the role followed her discussion on aging and cosmetic procedures in a previous interview with Allure magazine. She expressed her openness to undergoing plastic surgery when the time felt appropriate, acknowledging her willingness to enhance her looks through surgical means.
