Robert De Niro has been seen for the first time since the death of his 19-year-old grandson, Leandro De Niro Rodriguez.
The actor was photographed leaving his New York City apartment on the Upper East Side Sunday — the same day as the family tragedy.
The “Goodfellas” star, 79, had his face covered with a mask, glasses and a cap as he stepped outside and got into a waiting SUV.
Robert has since mourned the loss of his grandson in a statement shared with Page Six Monday.
“I’m deeply distressed by the passing of my beloved grandson Leo,” he said.
“We’re greatly appreciative of the condolences from everyone. We ask that we please be given privacy to grieve our loss of Leo.”
The actor’s daughter Drena De Niro first shared the news of her son’s death Sunday in an emotional Instagram tribute to her “beautiful sweet angel.”
“I have loved you beyond words or description from the moment I felt you in my belly,” she wrote in the caption. “You have been my joy my heart and all that was ever pure and real in my life.”
The actress and filmmaker, 51, added that she didn’t “know how to live without” her son.
“I’ll try to go on and spread the love and light that you so made me feel in getting to be your mama,” she continued. “You were so deeply loved and appreciated and I wish that love alone could have saved you.”

The late teenager’s cause of death has not been disclosed, though law enforcement sources told TMZ that it’s being investigated as an overdose.
The outlet reported that Leandro was found dead inside a New York City apartment, allegedly surrounded by drugs and drug paraphernalia.
Drena later expressed that she was in “inconsolable grief” as she returned to Instagram Monday.
“It is with immeasurable shock and and [sic] sadness that we say goodbye to our beloved son Leo,” she wrote in a statement.
“We thank you for the outpouring of love and support and ask that we are given privacy at this time to process this inconsolable grief.”
Drena is the eldest of Robert’s seven children. He adopted her in 1976 after marrying her mom, Diahnne Abbott.
The Oscar winner also shares son Raphael, 46, with Abbott, as well as twins Aaron and Julian, 27, with Toukie Smith and son Elliot, 25, and daughter Helen, 11, with Grace Hightower.
In May, the “Taxi Driver” star announced that his partner, Tiffany Chen, had given birth to his seventh child. The couple named their baby girl Gia.
