In his first season with Barcelona (2022/23), he scored 23 goals in La Liga, contributing to the team’s championship win, but his 19 goals in the 2023/24 season marked a drop below his usual standard for the first time since 2014/15.
Lewandowski’s Contract Situation and Potential Extension
All stakeholders are eager to keep Lewandowski beyond June 2025, the current expiration date of his contract.
However, a significant clause from his transfer deal with Bayern Munich in 2023 will activate in January.
According to Diario Sport, Lewandowski’s contract will be automatically extended by another year if he plays more than 45 minutes in at least half of Barcelona’s league matches this season.
Currently, he boasts an impressive tally of eight goals from nine matches, and the first league game of 2025 will mark the 19th match of the season, serving as a key point for triggering the extension.
Even considering potential rest periods before 2024 concludes, the clause should be activated by the end of January as he aims to surpass the 20-goal mark once again.
