The Influence of Nine Universities on the Founding of Covenant University: A Look at Nigeria’s Top Institution – Oyedepo

Covenant University, established by David Oyedepo, has reached an incredible achievement by being recognized as the top university in Nigeria and sixth overall in West Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa in the Times Higher Education World Universities Ranking 2025.

The Chancellor of Covenant University and the founder of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo, revealed that he examined nine prestigious international universities such as Harvard, Princeton, and MIT to guide the establishment of Covenant University.

This recent ranking was unveiled at the university’s 19th Convocation event, which took place at its location in Ota, Ogun State.

Utilizing the knowledge gained from these renowned institutions, Oyedepo developed the university’s foundational principles, resulting in distinct educational offerings.

He emphasized that this well-thought-out strategy has ensured Covenant University’s stature as a prominent educational establishment in Nigeria and West Africa, focusing on delivering exceptional educational experiences.

Oyedepo remarked, “While inspiration was drawn, nothing was directly copied; these studies allowed us to shape our core values, resulting in unique educational outcomes.”

He expressed his commitment, stating, “I was driven by a desire to offer high-quality education that helps students avoid future difficulties.”
