Authorities from the Nigeria Police Force, specifically the Ekpan Division in Uvwie Local Government Area, have detained Mrs. Odiase Ibhade Stella, an auxiliary nurse, in connection with the death of Miss Elizabeth Oyibode.

Additionally, police have closed down Stella’s pharmacy situated near New Era School, off Jakpa Road.

Miss Oyibode passed away three days ago at the Central Hospital in Warri after the nurse reportedly administered drugs that left her incapacitated.

In response, the National Coordinator of the Initiative for Social Rights Concerns and Advancement (ISRCA), known as ‘No Justice, No Peace’, Comrade Derrick Oritsematosan Agberen, stated that this case should serve as a warning to others engaging in illegal medical practices.

He remarked, “We confronted an unlicensed individual posing as a nurse who administered IV medication in her pharmacy, which led to the tragic passing of Miss Elizabeth Oyibode. The treatment resulted in severe brain damage, impairing her ability to communicate or engage with others.

“Gratitude goes to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ekpan, CSP Shaba Aliyu, for promptly addressing our concerns. We learned from her fiancé, Mr. Jonathan Okuma, about how the nurse misdiagnosed him with a bacterial infection after he reported unusual health symptoms.

“This alleged nurse, disguised as an auxiliary, advised Mr. Jonathan to involve his fiancée in the treatment since they live together and share a child.

“While treating Mr. Jonathan, she claimed that Miss Elizabeth exhibited signs of typhoid and malaria, recommending various medications simultaneously. Mr. Jonathan insisted on completing the treatment for the infection before proceeding with other medications.

“The suspected nurse later contacted Mr. Jonathan for funds to conduct a test on Miss Elizabeth, but instead used the money for IV treatment and medication he had previously warned her about. When he returned from work, he found his fiancée lying in her pharmacy, receiving IV treatment.

“This unfortunate situation led to severe complications for Miss Elizabeth, ultimately resulting in brain and body paralysis due to the medications prescribed by the suspected nurse.

“Tragically, Miss Elizabeth Oyibode lost her life three days ago at the Central Hospital in Warri, passing away at the young age of 21 due to the negligence of Mrs. Odiase Ibhade Stella.”

He emphasized that the auxiliary nurse has been apprehended and her pharmacy has been shut down by law enforcement.
