French footballer Paul Pogba has consistently claimed he is innocent after a positive test for dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), a substance that boosts hormone levels, including testosterone.

The ex-Manchester United player explained that the presence of the substance in his test was a result of an inadvertent error arising from a supplement he took without thoroughly checking it. He shared these thoughts during an exclusive conversation with Sky Sports.

At 31 years old, Pogba can return to action for Juventus and possibly the national team in March 2025, having successfully contested his initial four-year ban at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

In his Sky interview, Pogba spoke about the support he received during tough times, which helped him avoid quitting football and instead work toward his return.

“I thought about retirement,” he revealed. “But I quickly dismissed the idea; it wasn’t something I wanted to entertain.

“My wife encouraged me, reminding me that I would overcome this and play again. Family support significantly bolstered my mental resilience.

“Also, my faith in God played a crucial role in maintaining my optimism. I separated the negativity from my family, choosing to lead a normal life. Life continues.”

Pogba addresses Rooney’s allegations

Pogba named former teammate Jesse Lingard as one of his staunchest allies, while also addressing comments made by former colleague Wayne Rooney.

“Lingard is a close friend who brings positive energy into my life,” Pogba said. “We had a great relationship at United, especially when we were securing victories.”

“I want to clarify something about Rooney’s statement regarding a time when we supposedly celebrated in the locker room after a loss.

“You really need a witness for claims like that. If someone can affirm Rooney’s account, I’ll accept it. But if not, it’s likely not factual.

“Lingard hasn’t backed up that story, and I take losing seriously and respect the club.

“Rooney, a club legend, was there yet chose not to speak up about it. Does that seem credible?”
