Man United vs. Brentford: Anticipated Starting XI and Injury Updates – Will Mount Make His Comeback?

Man United vs. Brentford lineups, expected starting 11, confirmed team news and injuries: Mount to make Red Devils return? image

Erik ten Hag is set to take charge at Old Trafford against Brentford on Saturday after enduring a spell of intense speculation about his position as manager.

Recent draws against Porto in the UEFA Europa League and Aston Villa in the Premier League have alleviated some pressure following a heavy 3-0 loss to Tottenham at home.

During the international break, club officials convened and decided to retain Ten Hag, especially after news that their preferred candidate, Thomas Tuchel, was appointed England head coach.

Brentford, who have been strong early in matches, currently sit three spots and two points ahead of United in 11th place. Their striker, Bryan Mbeumo, has netted six goals in the Premier League this season, trailing only Erling Haaland.

Man United vs. Brentford team news and expected starters

Mason Mount is expected to return from his injury, which is a timely boost for the England international following Tuchel’s hiring.

Kobbie Mainoo (knee), Alejandro Garnacho (knee), and Amad Diallo have all missed international duty due to injuries, while Manuel Ugarte departed late due to a knock in Uruguay’s recent match against Ecuador.

The full-back positions continue to present challenges, with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia both sidelined, and Noussair Mazraoui subbed off at halftime against Villa and missing national team games. Victor Lindelof may need to fill in as an emergency right-back.

Fortunately, the center-back situation looks slightly better with more available players, although Harry Maguire is injured alongside Leny Yoro.

Predicted Man United XI (4-3-3 from right to left): Onana (GK), Lindelof, Evans, De Ligt, Dalot — Fernandes, Casemiro, Eriksen — Amad, Hojlund, Rashford

Injuries: Mainoo, Garnacho (doubt), Amad (doubt), Ugarte (doubt), Shaw, Malacia, Mazraoui, Maguire, Yoro
Suspensions:

Mathias Jensen, who scored in last year’s close 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford, might be back after recovering from a calf issue.

Rico Henry (knee) and Yoane Wissa (ankle) are expected to be unavailable until November, while Joshua Dasilva (knee), Igor Thiago (knee), and Gustavo Nunes (back) remain out as well.

Predicted Brentford XI (4-2-3-1 from right to left): Flekken (GK) — Van den Berg, Collins, Pinnock, Ajer — Jansen, Norgaard — Mbeumo, Damsgaard, Lewis-Potter — Schade

Injuries: Henry, Wissa, Dasilva, Thiago, Nunes
